Hanukkah Games for Kids
Happy Hanukkah! After lighting the menorah tonight and eating some potato latkes, you may want to play a little dreidel. Or else you might want to do some Hanukkah word searches or coloring pages with your kids.
First off, you need a dreidel and although the classic Dreidel song says otherwise, you don’t need to make it out of clay. You can buy a plastic one for under $1. Secondly, you need to know how to play the game of dreidel. So here are the directions:
You can play the dreidel game with any number of people (even by yourself!). Each player is given an equal number of “gelt” pieces (coins or chocolate coins), around 10-15. At the start of each round, each player puts one piece into the center. Then each player takes a turn spinning the dreidel.
If you land on “Nun” it means you get nothing. If it lands on Gimmel, the player gets everything in the pot. If the dreidel lands on Hey, the spinner gets half of the pot. If you get Shin, you add a coin to the pot. You just need to be able to recognize the Hebrew letters on the dreidel and the rest is easy.
