Tubeless Toilet Paper and the End of a Childhood Tradition
Say goodbye to toilet paper tubes.
Thanks to a new winding process developed by Kimberly Clark, toilet paper tubes may soon be a thing of the past.
Earlier this week, the household paper manufacturer announced plans to begin test marketing their new Scott Naturals Tube-Free toilet paper at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores throughout the Northeast. If things go well, the company hopes to expand their tubeless toilet paper line nationally and even globally.
But while eliminating the cardboard cylinder from the center of a roll of toilet paper may indeed make for an more environmentally friendly way to, you know, wipe yourself, it may also spell the end of a beloved childhood tradition: making toilet paper tube crafts.
For generations, those little cardboard tubes have provided the makings of many turkeys, castles, dragons and telescopes. And while it’s hard to imagine that the day will come when a child won’t be able to experience the excitement of creating something awesome from an empty toilet paper roll, it appears that we are headed that way.
So parents, you might want to start saving all your toilet paper tubes in preparation for the day when they become a scarce commodity. And don’t forget the paper towels. Kimberly Clark has their sights set on those, too.

I guess it doesn’t bother me that much but I don’t buy this brand. I think if the idea took off they’d all start this. It’s got to be cheaper.
