Is your baby's name a popular choice in The Big Apple?

Does your baby have a chic, popular name fit for a young Manhattanite?  If your daughter’s name is Isabella and your son’s name is Jayden, the answer is yes!  The New York City Health Department just released its list of the ten most popular names for boys and girls in 2009.  Take a look:

In addition to Isabella, the most popular girls names are:

Sophia
Mia
Emily
Olivia
Madison
Sarah
Ashley
Leah
Emma

All very sweet and old-fashioned sounding, no? Common names for boys born last year include:

Daniel
Ethan
Michael
David
Justin
Matthew
Joshua
Alexander
Christopher

Again, very traditional. Interesting. Looks like the trend of giving your child a celebrity-style unique name has subsided a bit. Although, not entirely. CBS reports that uncommon names for girls in 2009 were Nava and Zeldy, along with Drake, Orion, and Pinchus for boys.

The top names aren’t nearly as widely-used as they once were, because uniqueness remains a priority for parents. Nationally, only 16% of all babies born have one of the top 25 names.

Jayden? Really? Oh please no. Worst. Boy. Name. Ever.
