I love what I got on top!

Controversial adult guest stars aside, Sesame Street has always been about helping young children learn, grow and love themselves for who they are.  It’s what Sesame Street has been doing for more than forty years and continues to do with this video.

It’s a love song of sorts, sung by a little Muppet girl rocking an Afro and a pink party dress.  The object of her affection?  Her awesome hair.

And speaking of hair, Willow Smith, Will and Jada Pinkett’s 9-year-old daughter, just released the video for her new song, “I Whip My Hair.”  You can see it here, but even better is the mashup of Willow’s song with this Sesame Street video.  Check it out here.

My kids love that song from Sesame Street. They haven’t heard the Willow Smith song yet.

Comments I was inspired to see that sesame street would have a video of a puppet that loves her ethnic authentic hair. What I would have liked it this was incorporated most of the time in the sesame street show. I was wondering how long ago this was shown on the T.V. show? However, I have sen a show called Happy to be nappy and my daughter had that very book ” happy to be nappy” It went beyond a short skit on a puppet saying how she loves her hair. These were actually real people, young children and some cartoon skits.

If you never saw happy to be nappy, it is a must. This documentary show is real and biased free, it is a must see.

This is a great video for my daughter to watch. I’m raising a bi-racial 13 yr. old daughter struggling with issues pertaining to diversity. Conversations we have often include encouraging her to be proud of her hair… This is very helpful. thank you
