It’s Bosses Day: Give Mom Flowers
Stay at home moms run their family business
Today is National Bosses Day 2010. Sure, it’s another canned Hallmark holiday, but probably one worth having. It’s a day to recognize all the hard work your boss does, and show a little love for the stuff she or he gets right.
When you get home from work, if you have a stay-at-home spouse, you may want to lay some extra loving on them, too. After all, parents who stay home do more than childcare. They’re often the family CEO, managing the household budget, divisions of labor on household tasks, schedules, and everything else that goes into running a family.
They do all the work your boss does. For no pay, and little thanks. Sure, we have Mother’s Day and Father’s Day to recognize the love our parents dole out. But being a stay-at-home parent is about a lot more than baking cookies and kissing skinned knees.
Today would be a great day to recognize the other full-time job the stay-at-home parent in your life is doing: running a business. As a work-at-home mom and “family CEO”, here are a few things I think would make awesome Bosses Day gifts for someone in my shoes:
- Hiring a housecleaner, even just for one time.
- A dinner out, that my spouse arranges all the childcare and logistics for.
- Coming home from yoga class to find all the laundry folded and put away.
- A new case for my iPhone, the number one tool in my organizational arsenal.
