Homeless Man Under Pressure (Video)

Homeless Man Under Pressure
Every so often, I’m sent a YouTube video that truly takes my breath away, and this is one of them. Simply titled, “Homeless Man Under Pressure,” this video is “meant to entertain and inspire,” according to its creator. It delivers heartily on both counts.
As the video begins, the camera slowly hones in on a good-looking, middle-aged man sitting next to a sign that reads, “Family in need with 2 kids. Homeless + out of work. Anything helps.” Homelessness has been on the rise since 2007, due to the recession and related home foreclosures. The National Center on Family Homelessness estimates that “1.5 million children in the United States are homeless,” as quoted in Ariana Huffington’s new book, Third World America. A depressing statistic to be sure, and this video – whether performed by an actor or a real homeless Dad – is certainly a call to arms. But it is also a joyous celebration of human possibility and a reminder of our responsibility to one another.
Oh – it also stars dueting Kermits manipulated by a brilliant puppeteer who definitely deserves a job. Take a look:
Hat tip to the lovely Bex Schwartz.
