Why Groupon is Trying to Get You Pregnant
A new dating service is offering free college tuition for the babies of its first success stories.
In an effort to promote Grouspawn, a spin-off of the innovative and popular Groupon shared coupons company, the site is offering rewards in the form of educational grants for so-called Groupon babies.
A Groupon baby, as defined on the Grouspawn website, is any baby that is parented by a couple that used Groupon on their first date. Can’t get a date? Grouspawn will find you one (see the connection)?
An illustrated timeline shows you how simple the idea is. Signing up for Grouspawn, Step 1, gets you a date. Nine months later — just 9 months! — you, Step 2, lay your Grouspawn, which is the site’s way of saying you have a baby (hey, the “u” in the logo isn’t a baby-filled uterus for nothing!).
Step 3 is getting rich off your child (no, that’s what it says).
It’s an ambitious plan for an undisclosed amount of money (“getting rich” being relative and all). Just nine months start to finish. Couldn’t be easier. So be sure to cache those confirmation emails as proof — you’d hate to go through the trouble of having a kid and not get the cash bonus at the end.
The whole thing sounds pretty hoax-y but it looks to be a legit marketing stunt. So far, 172 people — nope, now 176 — have signed up for the dating site.
Now there’s no reason to pass up $100 worth of baby yoga for only $50 (a 50% savings).
