World’s Tallest Toddler
At nearly 5 feet tall, my 10-year-old stands head and shoulders above the other kids in her class. She thinks being tall is pretty cool and I can see why. The ability to see over the other player’s heads gives her an advantage in soccer and, with such long legs, she can outrun every kid in her grade. I tell her to enjoy being tall while she can because soon enough, the other kids are going to catch up. And considering the stature of most of her family members, many of those kids will end up taller than her.
But while being tall is likely a temporary condition for my kid, it is no doubt a permanent one for Karan Singh. At 2 1/2 years old, the boy from Meerut, India is already 4 feet, 5 inches tall.
Karan was born big. Weighing in at 13 pounds and measuring 2 feet in length, he never fit into baby clothes and currently wears the same size as the average 10-year-old. And according to mom Shweatlana Singh, he’s hungry. Very, very hungry.
When Karan wakes up in the morning the first thing he does is ask for food and tea. Whenever he sees anybody eating, he asks for food. He’d never stop eating if I didn’t force him to.
In looking at Karan, it’s easy to understand why his preschool initially refused to accept him because they thought he was too old. But you need look no further than his parents to see where he gets it. His dad is 6’7″ tall and, at 7’2″ his basketball-playing mother is the tallest woman in Asia.
Karan is believed to be the tallest toddler in the world and will likely end up on a basketball court himself one day. “His height is an advantage and if he wants to play basketball in future I will send him to America for studies there,” says Shweatlana.

Anne (from Sarah Vain and Tall) commented on Sep 30 10 at 2:37 amI am a very tall woman and I absolutely love it. I hope your daughter continues to be confident and to appreciate her unique gift — she stands out and that’s a wonderful thing! Watch out in her teen years though — no slouching :)
Rosana commented on Sep 30 10 at 8:59 amI am tall but I hated it when I was in elementary school because I always had to stand on the back in the pictures so the other kids could be seen. Now, I love it and yes, I played basketball all the way thru college.
Bob, he will hardly be dribbling since he will be more useful closer to the basket. Get the ball, pivot towards the basket and that will be a sure two points :)
Sarah commented on Oct 12 10 at 1:37 pmHi, I’m a 26 yr old adult woman, and I’m only 5ft tall and 110 lbs. I can’t believe how tall kids get these days. I’ve actually had to look up at a 9 year old once when talking to him. It was quite intimidating to say the least to have to look up at a child, but his mom was 6ft and his dad was 6’6, that would explain a little but still thats a tall kid for 9 !
skelly commented on Aug 12 11 at 9:07 pmI was always incredibly tall for my age as a kid. I finally outgrew my sister at 9 years old, who at the time was 22 years old and 5’1”. Now as an adult I’ve settled at my ever beanpoleyness (it’s a word…no really) of 5’8″ and 110lbs. Wouldn’t you know it, after a relationship with a 6’7” man (luckily no kids there, couldn’t imagine giving birth to giganti-baby) I ended up with my current partner who is 6’4” and about 200 lbs. We were kind of surprised when our daughter was born at 7lbs 3oz and 19 inches which to us seemed awfully average, but wouldn’t you know it, my lovely little 18 month old is 33 1/2 inches tall and 26 lbs. Suddenly starting to drift away from average. Looks like someone is taking after mom and pop after all. I hope she isn’t self conscious about her bean pole stature growing up like I was, it really is great. The gigantic little guy in the article is a cutie pie. Not a big surprise to hear he has a b-ballin’ mommy :)
