bad baby names regret 1 in 10 U.K. Parents Regrets Childs Name (No Wonder!)One in 10 parents in the U.K. regrets the name they gave their child, a parenting website found in a recent study. What’s also interesting is that 1 in 10 kids in the U.K. doesn’t like his or her name either and that 14 percent has asked their parents if they can change it.

Researchers for Bounty culled through millions of names given to children born after 2000 and found some unusual-to-wacky ones, which probably help to explain the name-regret on both ends. Some of the more unusual baby names, according to the Sun, are Unity, Bean and … um … Puppy (who no doubt rolled over and begged to be called John or Susan. Also? The house-training jokes write themselves.)

Other unusual names are Zowie, Ice, Victory, Stone, Echo, Diesel and Armani.

A third of the 3,000 parents surveyed get frustrated that their child’s name is frequently mispronounced. And though a lot were met with a negative reaction when unveiling baby’s name, 85 percent said grandparents and friends eventually got on board once they met the little tyke. A friend recently told me about a little boy she met named Dynomite [sic] — indeed, he’s a little spitfire! She was skeptical, too, but said the name totally works for Dynomite and his active and energetic family.

One detects a bit of sanctimony revealed in the survey, too. Three-quarters of parents who gave their children more traditional names believe they’ve helped protect their child against bullying. Six in 10 think parents who give their kids weird names are being selfish. (I think Dynomite and his mom and dad might have have a little something to say about all of that.)

The trend toward what Bounty is calling celebrity-style baby names isn’t slowing even though the website’s spokesperson cautions parents against it. But I’m pretty sure parents who name their kids Puppy or Dynomite or Peanut (!) don’t seek advice on these kinds of issues. But if help is your thing, here’s all you need.
