Lindsay Lohan: Comeback Kid?

Lindsay Lohan 177x300 Lindsay Lohan: Comeback Kid? Lindsay Lohan hasn’t even reported for jail yet, but the whispers of a comeback are already clogging up the blogs.

Invoking Drew Barrymore and Robert Downey, Jr., Jezebel makes the case that young stars often recover from periods of intense stress and terrible choices. Barrymore is a producer, director, respected actress and role model. Downey Jr. is a megastar. Other Hollywood notables have gone through bad periods: anyone remember Angelina Jolie’s wild youth?

The question is: can Lindsay get it together and turn her downward spiral around?

When she gets out of jail, Lindsay will presumably be going to work on a new movie, playing a porn star in what is supposed to be a gritty, well-written grown-up drama. The movie could be a chance for her to establish herself as an adult actress to be taken seriously. If she shows up for the work.

There’s some hope for her glimmering through. The star’s tweets are usually barely literate, but Lohan’s courtroom notes, captured by a papparazzi, are clear, neat and coherent. The girl can read, after all. All things are possible.

More remarkable than her literacy is the gossip columns willingness to focus on her good notetaking. For months, there’s been a feeding frenzy on Lohan’s every misstep. Bloggers at Jezebel have even called out the press for wishing Lohan dead.

Finally, people appear willing to look at what this troubled young woman is doing right. The more of her strengths we’re willing to see and shine a light on, the more she’ll get to show them.

Of course, her parents should have been helping her find her strengths and turn towards them all along, and they should be helping her now. But if the press must keep writing about her (and we must, you guys eat up Lindsay stories like almost nothing else) we can at least try to focus on the positive ourselves.
