Bethenny Frankel: The Newest Celeb Mommy Blogger
What’s the use of being a celebrity mom unless you blog about it? “The Real Housewives of New York” reality star Bethenny Frankel is the latest celebrity mom to join the blogosphere. She’ll be blogging regularly for People.com.
Nowadays, it’s not enough to be a famous mom. It seems you’ve also got to blog about it or else nobody will know what a good mom you are.
Kourtney Kardashian gained a new following among “attachment parents” when she defended public breastfeeding and co-sleeping on her blog. If she breastfeeds in public and co-sleeps, she’s got to be a good mom, right?
Fellow moms get a kick out of feeling that these first-time celeb moms have the same questions and concerns that they do. In her latest blog post, Kourtney Kardashian wondered when might be the right time to teach her six-month-old son Mason how to swim. Readers, no doubt, feel flattered that she’s asking for our feedback on the issue (personally, I think she should hold off. We enrolled my older daughter in swim class at six months and she just cried).
Now Frankel wants the world (or at least People.com readers) to know that motherhood has changed her life.
Are you surprised to hear that Frankel thinks her 8-week-old daughter Bryn Casey is “the most beautiful, sweet, magical girl in the world?”
And, guess what — she just loves motherhood!
“All of the clichés are true: Parenthood is magical, it is a gift, a miracle, and yes, I am over the moon,” writes Frankel.
I find the most compelling “mommy blogs” are the ones that are brutally honest about the difficulties of the transition to parenthood and the challenges of raising a child. How honest can Bethenny be when she knows that whatever she writes on her blog will be scrutinized and analyzed and publicized? It seems whenever a celebrity tweets something somewhat controversial, it’s big news.
Call me a cynic, but I’ve got a hunch that the main purpose of Bethenny’s blog is to enhance her public image (gotta love a mommy blogger!) and to promote her upcoming show.
After gushing about how lucky she is to have such a beautiful husband and baby, Frankel wraps up with a reminder to follow her on twitter, check out her web site and, most importantly, don’t forget to tune in to her new Bravo show “Bethenny Getting Married?”
What do you think? Are celeb mommy bloggers self-serving? Or is it kinda cool to hear about how rich and famous are (sort of) just like the rest of us?
