A Wolf In Goat’s Clothing: Mama Goat Adopts Wolf Cub
We’ve all heard of wolves adopting orphaned infants. In a “man bites dog” twist, here’s a heartwarming story of a mama goat adopting a baby wolf.
A mama goat adopted an abandoned wolf cub three years ago on a Chinese farm, and has nursed the predator to adulthood. Today, the farmer says, they’re “as close as any mother and child”.
Hunters found the orphaned wolf and brought him to Chinese farmer Ming, thinking Ming might know how to care for it. Ming’s goat had milk, so he bravely put the two together, and she began to suckle the foundling alongside her own child.
Ming says that today the two eat, sleep and play together. He’s preparing to release the 3-year-old wolf into the wild though. He thinks it’s not fair to keep him a pet forever.
Since this story came to us via the Croatian news, I’m assuming it’s garnered enough attention that an actual wildlife expert can help Ming move that wolf out into the wild successfully. I have no idea how a wolf raised by a goat will do fending for itself, but I wish them all luck. This story just tickled my vegetarian heart!
