RECALL: Kellogg’s Breakfast Cereals

Posted by bethanysanders on June 25th, 2010 at 2:20 pm

cornpops RECALL: Kelloggs Breakfast CerealsKellogg’s announced today a voluntary recall of several of their breakfast cereals that are marketed to kids.

Kellogg’s Corn Pops, Honey Smacks, Froot Loops, and Honey Smacks, and Apple Jacks are being recalled because of an “uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell coming from the liner in the package.” While the risk of serious health problems is low, says Kellogg’s, the issue could cause temporary nausea and diarrhea.

When checking your cereal boxes, note this: Only boxes with a “KN” following the “Better if used by” date are affected. If your box has a KM, it’s not part of the recall. No products in Canada are affected.

Kellogg’s is offering a free replacement of any affected product. Call the Kellogg Consumer Response Center at 888-801-4163. For more details on the recall, visit the Kellogg Company Media Room.

Uncharacteristic flavor and smell does not cause diarrhea. Why won’t they say what the problem with the liner really is?

Other articles I’ve found say “Kellogg is working on identifying the specific substance in the liner that’s causing the problem.” If they don’t know the cause, they can’t assess the risk.

My daughter and I both thought we had a touch of the stomach flu last week and come to find out it could have been from this cereal. The 2 boxes that we have are on the list and we did eat them….how do we know if that is what made us sick? And what will they do about it?

I’m glad I read this. We have a box of the recalled Pops. Yikes.
