RECALL: 2 Million Cribs
The latest crib recall affects over 2 million cribs and several popular brands. Most of the cribs in the recall have the dreaded drop-side, which can malfunction or fall off, leading to injury or suffocation.
This latest recall is an effort by the CPSC to “clean up” the crib market up unsafe cribs. Over the last five years, over nine million cribs have been recalled.
The brands affected include:
Evenflo (Jenny Lind)
Delta Enterprise Corp.
Child Craft
Jardine Enterprises (imported by Toys R Us)
LaJobi (Bonavita, Babi Italia and ISSI)
Million Dollar Baby
Simmons Juvenile Products
Though most of the cribs recalled are drop-side cribs, both Delta and Child Craft are also recalling fixed sided cribs. From the Associated Press:
Delta is also urging parents to check all fixed and drop-side cribs that use wooden stabilizer bars to support the mattress. The company says the bars can be installed upside down, causing the mattress platform to collapse. CPSC spokesman Scott Wolfson said Delta “was not cooperative with providing the full number of units involved in the mattress support assembly problem.”
Experts recommend parents stay away from drop-sided cribs, which are likely on their way out. Two bills have been introduced into Congress banning the cribs, which have declined in quality over the years. They also recommend not using cribs with lost or loose parts or cribs that are over 10 years old.

Don’t ban them, put some real standards into place. Cribs should NOT have plastic hardware, it should be metal or wood.
