Time’s 10 Saddest Kid Movies
I’m sure I have the only kids in America who don’t like going to the movies. The theater is too dark. The volume is too loud. And the storylines? Scary. Scary and sad. All that parent child separation (“Madagascar,” I’m looking at you). Tubs of pudding nearly causing a child to be orphaned! (Thanks, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” — in 3D!).
I’ve become more responsible about checking this site before forcing everyone into a darkened theater (hey, I love movies! And I will MAKE MY CHILDREN LOVE THEM TOO.) Also, I have memorized the following lists of movies to never see:
Time magazines 10 Saddest Kids Movies of all time:
It starts, as well it should, with “Bambi.” My kids come by their emotional weaknesses honestly, as there are stories from my childhood about wailing at the drive-in during the mother’s death scene. (What was Disney thinking?!)
Next is “Old Yeller,” “E.T.,” “Where the Red Fern Grows,” “Up,” “Dumbo,” (I’ve got childhood issues over this one, too), “Charlotte’s Web,” “My Girl,” “An American Tail,” and “Fluke.”
I’d also like to add “The Water Horse,” where heroic Dad doesn’t return from WWII!
What would you add to the list?

Should We Drop 'Breast is Best'? | Strollerderby commented on Jun 22 10 at 6:02 pm[...] Like Madeline’s kids, I think movies in the theatre are too loud, so the sound will have to be just right. And no showing movies with too many jump cuts – I hate that. No more 3D movies, either! My 4-year-old refuses to keep her glasses on during them. I’m not paying $10 so you can watch blur for 2 hours! MomofBeans commented on Jun 22 10 at 7:51 amJust introduced my daughter to Charlotte’s Web, which was one of my childhood favorites. She seemed fine with it, but I ended up crying uncontrollably for about 20 minutes. The part where Charlotte dies is like a knife to my heart.
Mom of 3 commented on Jun 22 10 at 8:22 amHaving to watch Ol’ Yeller in a 7th & 8th grade assembly while hiding my tears because of my own dog’s recent death is one of my worst childhood memories. Recently, my 3rd grader was shown “Where the Red Fern Grows” in class. I was upset for 2 reasons: 1- kids should read the book before watching the movie and 2 – thought it was an emotionally inappropriate choice by the teacher.
