Clingy Women, Gregarious Men Make the Most Babies
The conclusion of a new fertility study out of the U.K. reads more like a quirky summer chick-lit novel than actual science, but here we go:
The most fertile couples — the ones who are likely to have the most kids — are made up of an extroverted man and a neurotic woman. (Bridget Jones Diaries Part III?) Why? Why this particular coupling? (And why does it make me roll my eyes?)
Lead author Virpi Lummaa of Sheffield University said extroversion in men is linked to higher wages both in Senegal, whose polygamous families were the focus of the study, and the U.S. Higher wages equals more sex.
As for neurotic women? Well, they’re clingy. They’re willing to have more sex with their husbands, the researchers said.
Skeptics wonder whether its the actual kids that are making the clingy women neurotic, not the other way around.
Personally, I think it’s studies like this that make a person’s brain full of crazy.
Armchair psychologist wants to know: are you neurotic? Do you have lots of kids?
