Al and Tipper Gore Separate (You Heard Me)
Oh, for the love of, well, love! Is no marriage safe?
Politico reports today that Al and Tipper Gore, those crazy ol’ public French-kissing kids, are separating. As in, splitting up. As in, going their separate ways. Wha …? What about the kids? What about the environment? What about … us?
The separation was announced via email (you know, the Internet?). From Politico:
In an “Email from Al and Tipper Gore,” the couple said: “We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate.
“This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further.”
The two had been married 40 years (their anniversary was two weeks ago. Sigh.)
Was it the Montecito mansion — you know, the one that was inconveniently and truthfully not the greatest PR move on his part? Or was it — and this is so hard for me to write — another woman (what are the chances?)? This better not involve a pants-less Rielle Hunter.
The couple has four grown children,
Karenna Aitcheson Gore Schiff, Kristin Carlson Gore, Sarah LaFon Gore and Albert Gore III.
All of this is pushing me to ask: if the Gore’s can’t make it, is there hope for any of us?
