Doodle 4 Google: 9-Year-Old’s Drawing Wins
Go on, Google it. Pac Man’s out and nature is in.
For the next 24 hours, Google’s banner will be the drawing sketched by a 9-year-old El Dorado Springs, Mo., girl, the winning entry in their Doodle 4 Google contest.
Third-grader Mackenzie Melton submitted her sketch, “Rainforest Habitat,” in the competition open to K-12 students. Previous winners have both been sixth-graders.
Melton said that her winning entry was an effort to raise awareness about rainforest destruction. She tells the Christian Science Monitor, “the rainforest is in danger and it is not fair to the plants and animals. I love everything except spiders and snakes, but I would still save them.”
She will receive at $15,000 scholarship, a new computer and $25,000 for a new computer lab for her school.
“Rainforest Habitat” likely won’t be as distracting from work as Google’s recent PacMan banner (which, PS, you can still play for free at the site).
