Bristol Palin on Motherhood, Hard Work and Levi Johnston
She’s just like any other teen mom, that Bristol Palin. Working hard, loving harder, making choices between going to hockey games or a paycheck. She chooses the paycheck. She’s got bills! Don’t let the Carolina Herrera and Michael Kors gowns fool you.
Harper’s Bazaar’s interview with the daughter of the never-to-be vice president, Sarah Palin, hits newsstands June 1. We learn what’s it’s like to have your pregnancy outed on national TV (Totally sucked. She was 40 pounds “overweight”!), whether she’ll settle down (with the right guy, sure) and what she’d be doing if it weren’t for her son, Tripp (college, somewhere warm).
She also tells us the subject of her PowerPoint presentation in college speech class.
The piece characterizes Bristol as hard-working, totally on her own (she bought a three-bedroom condo!) and fully supporting herself (thanks to her famous pregnancy, that includes acting as ambassador for Candie’s foundation).
“I’m on my own. I’m really proud of it. I’m a hard worker.” “I don’t have time for friends or anything like that. It’s just like, Right, crap, there is a hockey game tonight that I want to go to but I can’t. Or, I do have to go to work today, because I’ve got bills to pay.”
“I thought I would be somewhere warm at college with my friends, but that was definitely not possible with having Tripp. I love my baby more than anything. He’s like a Gerber baby. He’s the cutest baby in the whole world…I just want Tripp to be happy and healthy.”
Her PowerPoint presentation for a community-college speech class demonstrated how to swaddle a baby. (She learned it from her dad).
As for Levi? “He’s a stranger to me.”
Us, too, Bristol. Us, too.

Bans on Driving to School: Fair? Could You Do It? | Strollerderby commented on May 27 10 at 2:08 pmChiLaura commented on May 26 10 at 2:49 pmWow. What the heck is your problem with her? The mere fact that she’s Sarah Palin’s daughter? I’m guessing that you don’t like the fact that she’s somehow “taking advantage” of her pregnancy to support herself? Apparently, it’s only okay to be a teen mom who supports herself if she does so in some accepted way. Poor girl — can’t win with people like you.
ChiLaura commented on May 26 10 at 3:04 pmGood heavens. I just read the interview. Did you miss the fact that she works 9-5? Sure, she probably gets “extras” that most people don’t get, but she’s hardly sitting around and relying on her pregnancy itself to pay the bills, nor is she on the government’s dole — which, it seems, is basically what you would prefer her to be doing.
GtothemfckinP commented on May 26 10 at 5:46 pmSeriously. Bitter much? I mean, Sarah Palin is her MOM. Bristol was probably neglected, being one of five of a hard-driving woman who put work before her kids.
