Graco Recalls Over 200,000 Cribs
Graco is recalling about 217,000 cribs over concerns that they could strangle, suffocate or trap an infant or toddler.
The recall focuses on drop-side wooden cribs manufactured by LaJobi. The cribs were sold under the Graco brand between February 2007 and now.
Faulty hardware on the cribs can cause the drop side to fall, potentially trapping, injuring or even killing a child. The company received about 99 complaints about the cribs. Two parents reported their children had been trapped by them, and were later freed by a caregiver.
If you have one of these cribs, stop using it for the moment. Then call LaJobi’s recall hotline at (888) 842-2215. They”ll send you a hardware retrofit kit to replace the faulty hardware with the good stuff.
This is Graco’s third recall this year. Earlier, they recalled millions of strollers and highchairs.

Drop-side Cribs Recalled, Called “Deadly Hazards” | Strollerderby commented on May 08 10 at 12:16 pmE commented on Apr 29 10 at 3:01 pmDon’t call the hotline, just go to their website! Seriously, I spent 30 minutes on the phone with a computer who kept disconnecting me. I finally went to the company website where you can enter your info into an online form. MUCH easier! Only problem? They say it will take 3 weeks to mail the part! Where’s the kiddo supposed to sleep in the meantime?

Gilligan commented on Apr 29 10 at 4:38 pmHow many affordable drop-side cribs have been recalled for faulty hardware over the past decade?? Obviously, these manufacturers have no interest in learning and little concern for babies’ lives. If they can’t make them cheap and safe, they shouldn’t make cheap drop-side cribs at all. Someone with influence needs to start advising parents to buy fixed-side cribs unless they can afford to shell out for expensive cribs with high quality metal hardware.
In all seriousness, it’s a scandal that this keeps happening.
zaksmom commented on Apr 30 10 at 11:00 pmI co-sleep and have a crib- DS napped and started off his nightly sleep in the crib. Or he did, until this danged recall. I just feel for parents without regular internet access. We can find out these things in minutes and get the repair kit with ease- what about parents who can’t check email alerts every ten minutes?
Chiken commented on May 02 10 at 4:25 pmThis is obvious: don’t buy a drop-side crib. They are clearly dangerous, and there is no reason to choose one over a completely safe non-drop-side crib at the same price.
