The Nigella Lawson of Breast Milk Comfort Food

Once the celebrated edible by-product of a healthy pregnancy, they’ve been shoved aside for a more glamorous, more versatile and — in this age of eco-consciousness — more sustainable nosh: human breast milk.

We’ve got fine cheeses, fun smoothies and acne cream. Now, U.K. lactating mom Abi Blake has cooked up a mess of comfort food, flavored and fortified with her own nursies. She even calls herself the Nigella Lawson of breast-milk cookery. (Check out this picture and you’ll see why.) She shares her goods with friends (sometimes before alerting them of the ingredients) and, according to The Sun, sell lots of different concoctions at food festivals.

Blake pumps her excess breast milk  after her 8-month-old daughter, Tily, finishes eating her fill and then stirs it in to cakes, tarts and creams.

The 30-year-old mother claims she’s made converts out of many, who say her breast milk dishes taste better. They’re also healthier, the Sun reports.

Although Abi’s cooking may seem like nothing more than a strange hobby, research released yesterday claims breast milk can kill cancer cells.

A compound found in it, dubbed Hamlet – Human Alpha-lactalbumin Made Lethal to Tumour – has been found to kill 40 types of cancer cells in tests, without causing the same damaging side effects as chemotherapy.

Blake is proud to say she’s even helping a friend of hers who is battling breast cancer, by setting her up with cream tarts and vanilla breast milk cheesecakes, her specialty.

What’s the most outrageous thing you’ve made with your breast milk? Me? A warm bottle for my son.

But doesn’t heat changes the composition in breastmilk? How is it still healthy in cakes and other baked foods?

I used some breastmilk to make macaroni and cheese once when we were out of cow’s milk. I couldn’t taste the difference, but I didn’t tell my husband that breastmilk was in it or he would have freaked out.

Comments I made a vanilla pudding, for my infant son. He wouldn’t take a bottle and it would have gone bad otherwise…
