Wimpy Kids in Movies
You couldn’t pay most of us to revisit our junior high years. My own memories include stirrup pants, bad perms, and a locker mate who didn’t speak to me once for an entire year.
That’s why Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid resonates so strongly with kids — it’s both real and comforting at the same time.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid the movie opens in theaters today, bringing the story that started as a series on Funbrain.com to life on the big screen.
From Entertainment Weekly:
As millions of comforted readers young and older know, the diary belongs to Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), a runty dude with the wherewithal to know he’s surrounded by morons (his word, not mine) but without the social skills to outwit, outplay, and outlast them. Or the knowledge of how to at least hang in until high school, when the games only get tougher.
Greg Heffley isn’t the first wimpy kid to suffer the trials of junior high, and he won’t be the last. But he might just join the club of classic wimpy kids who made us laugh as they bumble and fumble their way through one awkward situation to another.
Here’s Momlogic’s gallery of Wimpy Kids in Movies through the years. It includes geeky Ronald Miller from Can’t Buy Me Love — McDreamy to you and me — who gives wimpy kids everywhere hope that junior high, indeed, doesn’t last forever.
