They Say: Third-Hand Smoke Hurts Your Kid (Video)
Still another reason to quit smoking: a new study has found that third-hand smoke (the nicotine that adheres to surfaces long after the cigarette is extinguished) can be harmful to all humans, but especially babies and toddlers.
When this residue combines with ambient nitrous acid (commonly emitted from unvented gas appliances), it can transform into a deadly carcinogen. And no, stepping outside won’t help, as the nicotine still attaches itself to your clothes.
“These results may be just the tip of the iceberg,” said Kamlesh Asotra of the University of California’s Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program, which funded this study.
So if you smoke, and you have kids, please just stop. Okay?
