Peter Facinelli Launches Twihards4Charity [Morning News]
Three words — Twihards4Charity. Or is that one word? Or two words and a number? I don’t know. Heck, I only just found out that the Twilight vampires sparkled in daylight. Anyway, actor Peter Facinelli is trying to harness the power of the Twilight-obsessed to help raise money for Haiti. Through a quick perusal of the new web site, it appears that if you buy Twilight-related stuff via Twihards4Charity, some of the money will go to Haitian relief efforts. (Facinelli plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen — is he a sparkly vampire?) All kidding aside, it’s all good. Can I think it’s a good thing and make fun of Twilight? Of course I can. This is still America, even if Sarah Palin wants us to have a revolution.
Speaking of raising money for Haiti, here are a few other notable efforts.
- An Ohio strip club raised $1,000 with their ‘Lap dances for Haiti‘ event. (AP)
- This headline says it all: West End Actors Join Forces to Showcase New Musicals and Benefit Haiti Earthquake Appeal. Because really, when you think of the disaster in Haiti, you think of new musicals. Maybe this is one of those benefits where if you donate enough money you get to stay home. If so, it’s a great idea.
- Some celebrity types are donating “items and experiences” to an eBay auction, with the money going to Haiti relief. Miley Ray Cyrus Hannah Montana Stewart Lipschutz is said to be “donating several items, including the Herve Leger dress she wore to the 2010 Grammy Awards.” Two things: one, I’ve always been amazed that anyone would want to own something that someone else wore. Won’t it be all sweaty and gross? Two, I am so fashion-clueless, when I saw the name Herve Leger, my first thought was of the late great Hervé Villechaize of ‘Fantasy Island‘ fame. Here is Hervé on ‘The Ben Stiller Show‘, which was his final TV appearance, according to a YouTube commenter.
Random headline of the day: White House vows ‘multiple’ attacks on Asian carp. I’m not even going to bother reading the story. The image of Rahm Emanuel charging out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with a spear, screaming like Mel Gibson in ‘Braveheart‘ that he’s going to get those damn fish is just too amusing to spoil with actual facts.
And speaking of Rahm Emanuel, Saturday Night Live did a sketch about the whole r-word routine. (Routine starts with the letter R!)
The best line is when Andy Samberg as Rahm goes after Sarah Palin, saying, “You come after me on Facebook? What, are you — fourteen?” They even threw in a dig at Mel Gibson, which always works, although it wasn’t as funny as this SNL bit that took a shot at the Mel-meister directed flick ‘Apocalypto.’ (Three words: I smell bagels.)
And speaking of the r-word, we’re going to be discussing the whole kerfuffle on Blog Talk Radio this Wednesday at 12:30pm. Jeanne Sager, whom you know from Babble and her recent appearance on ABC will join me, if she isn’t signed to take over for Oprah between now and February 10. Tune in on Wednesday to R-Word Radio — we’ll take your calls, and have a rockin’ good time. (Rockin’ starts with the letter R!)
Last, but certainly not least, is this little tidbit. Coyotes at Columbia University. Apparently three coyotes were spotted at prestigious school, which is located on West 116th Street in Manhattan. For those who aren’t familiar with the area, it’s more Upper West Side than the Old West. Apparently coyotes are still a threat to livestock, but so far no college students have become coyote chow. Woof.
