Michelle Obama Rolls Out “Let’s Move” Initiative
Michelle Obama rolled out Let’s Move, her new program to combat childhood obesity, today. I think this is a pretty brave and classy topic for her to take on as First Lady. The obesity epidemic is another symptom of the same period of excess that brought us the current recession. Like the recession, we’re going to have to deal with this one through a combination of changing our personal habits and holding big corporations and government accountable.
Jeanne Sager has had some choice things to say about the First Lady’s decision to use her own kids as poster children for this cause. I’ll let her comments stand on their own.
While I laud Mrs. Obama for taking on this huge issue, I’d like to see her focus on slimming down the processed food industry at least as much as she focuses on getting parents to slim down their kids’ lunch menus.
