Superbowl Ads: The Dude-Friendly Version of Childbirth
Jezebel noticed an interesting (though entirely predictable) discrepancy between the original trailer of The Back-Up Plan and the one that aired during the Superbowl. The movie stars Jennifer Lopez as a career woman who opts for artificial insemination.
In case that’s not enough to get you dudes fired up, wait ’till you see this awesome Superbowl-friendly ad,which hinges on the universal guy view of childbirth: it’s so grotesque and nauseating that it’s hilarious!
Plus, we all know no home birth would be complete without a womyn-only drum circle. Pregnant chicks: so predictable–and disgusting! Hardy har.
And here’s the original movie ad:
I would certainly never pay 12 bucks to see this movie as it was originally advertised. But the Superbowl trailer could make me consider holding a protest sign outside a movie theater.

feefifoto commented on Feb 08 10 at 3:54 pmComments It always happens that way, doesn’t it? Woman thought she’d be married “by now,” decides to start her own family, gets pregnant immediately, and then meets the man of her dreams. If I had a nickel for every time that’s happened, I’d probably have… less than a dollar.
Andrea commented on Feb 08 10 at 4:09 pmYeah, but if you had a nickel for every time it happened in the movies or on TV, you’d be rolling in it.
ChiLaura commented on Feb 08 10 at 9:49 pmI’ll join you in that protest. Way to make homebirth look like only the freaks do it!
Eric commented on Feb 08 10 at 10:28 pmWell duh, there’s no money in bucking a stereotype. Farmhouse in the country: must be populated with toothless, inbred, hicks. Black teen in the inner city: must be a drug-using gang-banger. Lady having baby at home: hippy, crazy, pot-smokers. What’s the point of seeing people as individuals?
Ri-chan commented on Feb 09 10 at 1:39 amI actually thought the most offensive thing was when you mentioned “the universal guy view on childbirth: it’s so grotesque and nauseating, it’s hilarious”. Speaking of stereotypes and sweeping generilizations along with sexism…
Kel commented on Feb 09 10 at 12:57 pmOh Come on! That’s HISterical! If you can’t make fun of yourself… it was really funny!
Hannah Tennant-Moore commented on Feb 09 10 at 2:34 pmRi-chan, That was sarcasm. I was poking fun at the marketing of the film.
