lets play in the snow Blame the Groundhog: Snowy Reads for KidsStop your groaning about the groundhog’s six weeks of winter decree. There’s a bit of good news in all of this: more time for cuddling up on the couch with your kids for some snowy winter reads.

Babble checked out some of the best books about winter, and here are our little reader’s favorites:

Let’s Play in the Snow by Sam McBratney – Fans of Guess How Much I Love You will recognize their favorite hares in a winter wonderland that introduces one of my childhood favorite games: I Spy. Reminding kids to look around because they never know what they’ll spy in the wild, even when it’s snow-covered, this book keeps kids guessing.

snow by uri Blame the Groundhog: Snowy Reads for KidsSnow Bears by Martin Waddell - An old favorite (it came out in 2002), the story of three little brown bears pretending to be “snow bears” is a great exercise in imagination. While Mama Bear is looking for her little cubs, she plays a game with these three strange “snow bears,” only to discover that white fluff disappears in front of the fire to reveal her favorite little bears after all.

Snow by Uri Shulevitz – All it takes is one snowflake for kids to get excited, but Shulevitz’s Caldecott Honor winning picture book shows that childhood enthusiasm catches on with the increasing precipitation. Take a look at the snow through a child’s eyes, and you might look to snow days with a smile.

My Little Polar Bear by Claudia Rueda – Children delight at hearing the story of their birth, and polar bears are no different. A mother bear explains her cub’s very “polar bearness” in a warm tale that offers a perfect contrast to the arctic scenes on each page.
