The ‘Harry Potter’ author finally catches a break with the release of a J.K. Rowling comic book biography.

Titled ‘Female Force: J.K. Rowling‘, the book chronicles the life of the lady who gave literary birth to Harry, Hermione, Hagrid, and other characters whose names don’t begin with the letter “h”. Fan site The Leaky Cauldron says that there will be two versions of the book — a 23-pager, and a “double-sized collector’s edition“. Amazon is currently selling the collector’s edition for $7.99, and they won’t even have the thing until February 8. So if you really want a copy of ‘Female Force: J.K. Rowling‘ right away, you’ll need to head to your local comic book store and pick it up there. Comics shops get stuff earlier than Amazon. So there.

Star Comics All-Star Collection Vol 2 TP: Star Comics was an imprint of Marvel Comics, sayeth Wikipedia, that published all-ages titles, many of which were intended to look like Richie Rich and other Harvey Comics titles. Characters included in this edition are Planet Terry, Wally the Wizard, Top Dog and Royal Roy. In a bit of comic book synergy, these characters were recently featured in the dopey-but-fun X-Babies miniseries. If you are unfamiliar with the X-Babies and are curious about them, let me scare you off with the phrase “the X-Babies are in continuity.” Feel that shiver? That’s pure geek, baby. Move along.

Disney Pixars Toy Story #1: I’m actually looking forward to reading this one to my youngest. The first issue, which was actually issue #0 (I think they started doing that just to confuse me), had above average writing by none other than Jesse Blaze Snider, son of Twister Sister frontman Dee Snider.

Other Disney-type comics from Boom! Kids this week are Disneys Hero Squad #1 and Wizards Of Mickey #1.

Archie Comics offerings this week include Archie Digest #261, Betty #184 and Sonic The Hedgehog Vol 2 #209, which doesn’t have the Riverdale gang in it but is in fact published by Archie Comics. (Again — they do it to confuse me. It’s a conspiracy.)

Other all-ages titles out this week include Cartoon Network Action Pack #46, featuring Ben 10: Alien Force, and Looney Tunes Vol 3 #183.

Goofy Title of the Week That I’m Not Buying:

President Evil Yes We Cannibal: This isn’t a kiddie book but the title was too good to pass up. I didn’t buy it, but it’s another Baracksploitation comic, this time featuring an undead President Obama. There could be something partisan going on here but it’s all so silly that it can’t possibly matter.
