Tila Tequila Wants to Adopt Haitian Babies
With milk banks sending breast milk to Haiti that aid workers can’t use and Americans planning illegal adoptions of Haitian orphans, it’s clear that a lot of people think they know what’s best for Haitian children. It’s equally clear that they’re wrong.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Tila Tequila is one of those people. The 28-year-old reality TV star recently Twittered: “Ok I will adop [sic] 2 children from HAITI….I’m going to try to do that ASAP! Those poor babies! Mommy is coming to rescue u my Angels! xoxox.”
Considering that the newly pregnant Tequila is already embroiled in a heated paternity controversy–and that she shows zero signs of being, you know, sane–I’m not sure now is not the best time for her to act on her dreams of being a mother of five: “I am going to have 2 biological babies of my own, then adopt 3 other babies who need a home!” she Twittered in another message.
Fortunately, considering the moratorium on Haitian adoptions, it’s highly likely that her Tequila’s maternal dreams will remain nothing more than a Twitter feed. Tila Tequila, if you really want to help those “poor babies,” send money to organizations like Kids in Distressed Situations.
I think it’s safe to say that the majority of children in Haiti would rather be “rescued” in their home country than whisked away to live with a publicity-obsessed, reality TV star or with a mission group in Idaho.
