Mom Sneaks Laxative into “Fat” Baby’s Bottle
An infant whose mother decided she was getting “fat” when she finally started to gain weight really puts the childhood obesity crisis in another perspective.
Washington State child protective services have taken Brittainy Labberton’s daughter after the baby gained just one pound during the first two months of life. This after being born at five pounds four ounces.
The Seattle Times reports Labberton claimed the child was fussy and threw up frequently – ostensibly believable for a baby (I still can’t shake that projectile vomit memory from my daughter’s early days). But when the baby was removed from her care, police say the baby started gaining weight . . . and then Labberton pulled a fast one.
Police allege she slipped a laxative into the baby girl’s bottle during a parental visit. The baby ended up with diarrhea, and her foster mother’s reports to authorities ensured Labberton was never allowed to prepare another bottle for the child. Not surprisingly, she nearly doubled her weight in a period of just two months away from dear old Mom and Dad.
Labberton’s made claims that she was suffering from post-partum depression, but her constant talk about weight – from the child’s to that of her six-foot-tall, one hundred eighty-five pound husband – were backed up by a husband who reportedly told police he was afraid his daughter would be too fat to walk.
With an overwhelming amount of evidence that parents play a major role in their children’s eating disorders, this isn’t just an issue of a baby in trouble. These parents are in trouble themselves. Brittany Labberton is five feet five and ninety pounds. Her husband is described as fat at six feet, one hundred eight-five.
Poor body imagery of that sort is a disease in and of itself. These parents are sick – and not just for what they’ve done to their daughter.

Mistress_Scorpio commented on Jan 29 10 at 12:04 pmRead the article… they were also starving their two year old daughter. When she was given food away from her parents, she stuffed her face so fast she nearly choked.

Lisa commented on Jan 31 10 at 10:48 amThis is definitely a case for the children to be taken away from parents. What a terrible situation. Those parents needs serious psychological help!
m.helton commented on Feb 02 10 at 2:08 pmTHAT is just awful and a poor excuse for a mother…She needed to get help if she was that bad or just give the baby up for adoption..there is plenty of people who would love and cherish a fat baby
Shobana commented on Feb 04 10 at 8:32 pmSad what some parents will do to their own children. I really don’t understand this approach for attaining a healthy lifestyle. The results are right in front of their eyes…in the form of their 2yr old, who stuffed herself. I mean, where do such people get off? I think, people should stop obsessing and start looking towards a healthy lifestyle.
