RECALL ALERT: Toys With Lead, Toys Cause Fire
It’s a bad day for toyland – not to mention little girl and boy land – with two recalls pulling back more than twenty thousand toys for lead and fire hazards to kids.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning parents who have purchased either Nature Wonders horse figurines or Radio Shack Knight Hawk helicopters to head to the toy box and yank them out.
The surface paint coating on the horse contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard, says the CPSC, and some fifteen thousand of them out there were sold in Wal-Marts from January 2009 through July 2009. Priced around $4, the horses will be replaced by Blip Toys if you call 888- 405-7696 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s Web site.
The horses involved in the recall are only the Nature Wonders HD pinto horse toy figures with model number 92093. The plastic horse is white with brown spots and measures about 4 inches tall. The model number and “Nature Wonders HD” are printed on the retail tag wrapped around the horse’s leg.
As for the helicopters, the CPSC reports the Radio Shack toys contain battery housing under the helicopter canopy which can overheat while charging, posing a fire hazard. Some six thousand have been sold at Radio Shack stores, where they can be returned for a full refund. The recall involves only Danbar Toys Knight Hawk 3D remote control helicopters. The helicopter can be identified by model number 006047 marked on the back of the controller and the Knight Hawk 3D logo on the front of the controller. The product was sold at RadioShack as catalog number 600-0566 (60-566) for ages 8 and up.
