Apple iPad Makes Women See Red
So all those leaks were correct: Apple unveiled a crossover tablet that falls somewhere between an iPhone and a laptop, but an unfortunate name choice has Internet women and moms wondering:
Is there a woman in Apple’s nerd herd? At all? Anywhere?
As Lemondrop deftly notes, the jokes are already flowing over the new iPad:
How will it stand up to other tablets if I pour a test tube full of blue water on it?

Emily commented on Jan 27 10 at 10:04 pmYou know what the first thing I thought of when I saw “ipad” was? Hey – it’s the size of a LEGAL pad. But now that I’ve seen my 12th news article that can only focus on the name – and makes a lame “feminine product” joke I have to say this: GET NEW MATERIAL. You’re making an issue out of nothing. Seriously. Can we talk about the technology and not the (perfectly reasonable if not overly clever) name?
Mike Adamick commented on Jan 27 10 at 11:05 pmYeah, after just a few hours I’d agree that this gag has me feeling grumpy for some reason. And kind of bloated. Weird.
Necro commented on Jan 28 10 at 7:27 amlol, they can’t be serious. I predict a name change or bitter failure.
Michaela Ferkul commented on Jan 28 10 at 8:35 amEr, no. Been a user of FHPs (feminine hygiene products) for years, actually decades- and THIS thought didn’t even occur to me as I was thinking- “Now that’s a helluva cute toy- I want one!”
GP commented on Jan 28 10 at 8:36 amI agree with Emily. I first saw the gag on NPR and thought it was really stupid. Grow up. And who the hell uses pads anymore, anyway? Except right post-partum.
Fillyjonk commented on Jan 28 10 at 9:35 amI think the jokes are great. Yes, there’s an element of Beavis and Butthead’s “hehehe He said ‘penal’” and what’s wrong with that? There are always people who object to low-brow humor but that rarely stops it. The best one I’ve seen, by the way, is that we shouldn’t rush out and buy the new iPad: The next version might have wings.
baconsmom commented on Jan 28 10 at 12:06 pmGP, plenty of people still use pads. There are myriad reasons, from not being able to find tampons in the right size to not liking the feeling to having too heavy a flow to being a young girl who may not yet have the hang of insertion. And plenty of women use the reusable pads for environmental reasons.
A little sense here, come on.
beans mom commented on Jan 28 10 at 3:51 pmCommentsI’m with Emily and GP. iPad for notepad, a just okay name. and are woman that fixed on “pad” having one meaning?
LogicalMama commented on Jan 28 10 at 7:59 pmThey should’ve called it the iMaxiPad and changed the Nano to the iMiniPod!!!!!
Mistress_Scorpio commented on Jan 28 10 at 8:14 pmI’m going to wait for the iPons.
karmamama commented on Jan 28 10 at 10:13 pmI know it’s crazy, but consider this: not every product is made expressly for parents of small children! I’ll just step back and let that sink in.
Mike Adamick commented on Jan 28 10 at 10:16 pmPlease. How do you think Caterpillar and Stihl stay in business? Parents.
Daisy Jackson commented on May 14 10 at 12:31 ami am planning to buy an iPad since it looks lighter than a regular desknote and i don not use much of the features of a laptop.-.-
