Newborn Rescued in Haiti Spent Half Her Life Without Food
Happy stories from Haiti have been few and far between this week, but a newborn rescued from under the rubble seems have survived half of her life without food or water.
And yet Elisabeth Joassaint was feeding at her mother’s breast after rescuers reunited the two like nothing had ever happened.
The Wall Street Journal reports Joassaint tried to run upstairs to her baby when she felt the tremor in the earth, but the walls crumbled too quickly. Elisabeth was eight days old at the time.
She remained there for another seven, until rescue workers sifting through rubble found her in the same bed where her mother had laid her down after a feed, completely unhurt.
Consider this our hump day happy.
