The incident was caught on video. Although there does seem to be a gap, I’m reminded of something Bill Maher said in response to police comments that the public should see the “full version” of the Rodney King tape — is there a part of the tape where the cops are buying him dinner?

Even if you think that the guy was indeed resisting arrest and/or acting like a fool, make sure you look at the end of the video, where a fan tries to talk to one of the officers, who asks him to “step outside.” I usually want to defend the police, because I think they have a very difficult job where, you know, people shoot at them. But this type of behavior makes that very difficult.

Also worth noting is the way that some Chargers fans at the game are defending the guy. Over at Yahoo! Sports, The Mighty MJD says, “I have never seen opposing fans stick up for a fan of the other team, especially one who was taunting them unmercifully.”

Here’s the video. What do you think?

Something like this happened to me last year at Yankee Stadium. One major difference was that I didn’t do anything other than get spit on by a gal who was deemed too obnoxious to appear on the show “Jersey Shore.” Another difference was that no one was hauled off in handcuffs, despite the fact that they were actually being abusive (including spitting on me, did I mention that?). They were thrown out of the game, but it was handled without actual police, and without any disgusting displays of law enforcement machismo. I talked about it on Blog Talk Radio; here’s the show.

In other news…

Haiti seems not to be getting better, although we do seem to be collecting a lot of money, including $22 million via text messages. You know what occurred to me this morning? There is a lot of money in the United States.

Did I say Haiti? NFL broadcaster Jim Nantz pronounces Haiti as Haitia. Video:

Tomato, tomahto…

Sparkly vampire Robert Pattinson has signed on for Friday’s Hope for Haiti telethon. You know what? That will probably get a lot of people (read: Twi-hards) to pay more attention to the tragedy and possibly even donate money. Good on ya, Robby.

Wyclef Jean is defending his charity against charges of financial misdeeds (Wyclef Jean Yele Haiti Charity Controversy). I have no idea if there is any reason to doubt that money donated to Yele Haiti will go to help the people of Haiti, but I can’t imagine that it wouldn’t — with so many eyeballs on them, no organization could get away with any sort of screwing around. I’m not saying that there was any screwing around before, but if there was, could it keep happening now? Again, I have no idea, but I doubt it.

We leave you with Wyclef Jean’s terrific cover of Fortunate Son.
