Kid Bringing Gun To School Means Mom’s Arrested
A little kid brought a loaded gun on the school bus, so police have arrested his mother.
The Daily Press says Hampton, VA mom Jasmin Imani Aldridge has been charged with felony child neglect in the incident – it was her eight-year-old son who took two loaded guns from their home and handed one off to a ten-year-old on the school bus.
The kids’ action seems fairly innocent – there were no threats made, and police have seen found no intent to cause an actual incident. But they’ve both been suspended anyway – with possible expulsion.
And here’s the kicker – Aldridge is just twenty-three. So the eight-year-old who got hold of a loaded weapon, allegedly because of his mother’s neglect, was born when she was a just a kid herself. It’s a sad but true example of why teen pregnancy is loaded with so many issues for the resulting babies down the road.
It’s good to hear gun control issues being taken seriously in relation to kids – and no surprise in Virginia, where gun control has been a hot, hot issue since the Virginia Tech tragedy of 2008. Kids taking guns to school is a lightning bolt out of the sky – this kid is in trouble, and the first place to look is in the home.
But with such a poor example at home, how do you feel about the school’s possible expulsion of the eight-year-old? Too much or just enough?
