Dad Drives Kids To Police Station for Pulling His Hair
Close to three-quarters of Americans admit to driving while distracted, so why did one dad decided his own distractions were worth a trip to the police station?
Because those distractions were his nine-year-old twin daughters, who were punching and pulling their father’s hair for singing behind the wheel.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports the dad wanted to prove to his kids just how dangerous it was to distract a driver, so he asked the cop at the station to teach them a lesson. An actual police report filed says the officer did just that before closing the case.
We’ve had a rash of parents calling the cops lately to do the job of parenting, and I’d normally call foul on the parent for wasting the time of the police and for shirking their own responsibilities.
But I’m going to give this dad a bye because road safety IS a police issue. We’ve already surmised here on Babble that driving with kids is almost if not equally as distracting as driving with a cell phone (not an excuse for you cell phone users out there). When the kids reach a point where they could actually cause an accident – including physical violence against the driver – it goes beyond a family issue to one of public safety.
I’d also commend Dad for driving to the station rather than calling 911 – he wasn’t calling an officer off of road patrol or tying up emergency lines.
