11552 Nestle Drinks for Kids Make Misleading Claims, Says FDAParents rely on food labels to make the best nutritional choices possible for their kids and their families. That’s why it’s so frustrating when food labels market foods inaccurately.

Last month, Nestle got a sharp slap on the wrist — in the form of two different warning letters — by the FDA, who says the Swiss food maker made claims about the content of two types of beverages marketed to parents and caregivers of small children.

Juicy Juice Brain Development Fruit Juice Beverage (Apple), Juicy Juice All-Natural 100% Juice Orange Tangerine and Grape all contain the statement “no sugar added,” a claim that the FDA says is not authorized on foods that are meant for kids under 2.

Another beverage, Nestle’s Boost Kid Essentials Nutritionally Complete Drink, is marketed as a “medical food,” but does not actually meet the standard necessary to be sold under that label.

Though these inaccuracies may seem like small potatoes, it’s an important message to send to food makers. Consumers who care about what’s in their food products want labels that are both clear and not-misleading, but also accurate, especially from brands they trust.

For their part, Nestle Beverage  said in a statement that they intend to work with the FDA on the problem.

I guess I’m not exactly shocked because its Nestle? Seems like they’ve been in hot water over advertising (specifically, formula in third world nations) for years now.
