You Sound Just Like Your Mom (Really)

You know that old cliche about how all women become their own mothers as they age?
Apparently, 8 out of 10 of us also use our mom’s cliches. Under stress, we revert to our childhoods and wham! our own mom is shouting out of our mouths.
I turned into my mom right around the time I bought a house and got pregnant. Here are a few “OMG! I’ve Turned Into My Mother” phrases I’ve caught myself using:
- “I Hope When You Grow Up, You Have A Child Just Like You Someday”
- “Oh, no you don’t! Don’t even think about it.”
- “And just what do you think you’re doing?”
- “Don’t even start with me.”
- “I’m not your servant.”
- “DO NOT HIT YOUR SISTER!”
- “You really don’t handle transitions well.”
- “We’re late again.”
- “Look at this mess!”
- “I love you.”
My oldest is only five, and she has already started throwing my own phrases back at me. We’re doomed.
What “Mom” phrases have you channeled from your childhood?

“I don’t care if you’re X, Y, or ::something completely off the wall and totally unrelated”. I have heard that flying out of my mouth on more than one occassion.
Erin commented on Dec 11 09 at 9:58 amI have already picked up “It’s gonna end bad!” (largely directed at the cats), which I know for a fact my mother got from her mother. I’m sure there are more to come.

“If you don’t stop whining, so help me…” never finished, delivered in strangled voice for effect, answered with a small, “Help you do what?”
“Ask me if I give a good gosh darn what Jason’s parents let him do.”

“You will [do homework, go to school, go to bed, etc.]! I don’t care if it hairlips the governor!”
Mom is a hillbilly. They have the best phrases.
Heather commented on Jul 01 11 at 5:16 am“I’m not (so-and-so’s) mom, I’m your mom, and I said no.”
“Don’t you take that tone with me, young lady.” (You know you’re in trouble if you get called young lady!)
“I can’t hear people who talk in whiny voices!”
One my daughter says that sounds so funny coming out of her mouth: “Oh my goodness gracious.”
