amby baby bed 283x300 Amby Baby Hammocks, Evenflo Exersaucers Recalled As reported yesterday by Meredith on Droolicious, if you have an Amby Baby Motion bed, get your baby out of it right this second. All 24,000 models of the Dr. Sears-endorsed baby bed are being recalled because of possible suffocation hazards. Two deaths have occurred from use of the product.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission release, “the side-to-side shifting or tilting of the hammock can cause the infant to roll and become entrapped or wedged against the hammock’s fabric and/or mattress pad, resulting in a suffocation hazard.”

The CPSC says parents should stop using the hammock immediately and find a safe sleeping environment for their baby. They can contact Amby Baby USA for a free repair kit at (866) 544-9721, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or via www.ambybaby.com.

But it’s not just the crunchies with dangerous products lying around: Evenflo is recalling 66,000 ExerSaucer 1-2-3 Tea for Me Activity Learning Centers. A flame decoration on a cake toy attached to the saucer can detach, posing a choking hazard. Evenflo has received 11 reports of the flame detaching, but no injuries have been reported.

Parents are asked to remove the cake toy from the exersaucer immediately and contact Evenflo for a replacement toy. It’s still safe to use the exersaucer without it. Evenflo can be reached at (800) 233-5921 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or at safety.evenflo.com

On a side note, my personal experience has been that Evenflo takes this stuff very seriously. Some years back the fabric on the underside of the buckle on my daughter’s car seat was unraveling, and she’d sometimes put it in her mouth. I called Evenflo mostly to make them aware of it, and they sent me out a new car seat cover right away. And were nice about it.

I bought this bed on ebay for my son and from birth could never get him to sleep in it. I packed it up to put back on ebay, but after reading the story of the father who found his son suffocated in it… I dropped that thing at the dump yesterday.
