flying teddy bear 300x199 8,000 Teddy Bears Rain on RinkYou expect things to be thrown at hockey games – usually punches. Not eight thousand teddy bears, all thrown onto the ice in the middle of the first period at a Ontario Hockey League game.

The bears – eight thousand two hundred thirty-two to be exact – were being chucked at the players after the first goal was scored as part of a tradition.

The nine-year-old Teddy Bear Toss happens around the holidays when fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to the game, then throw them onto the ice to be collected and distributed to children in  need in the area.

If your child is now throwing teddy across the room after watching that, blame Canada – we do.

This ::may:: be an OHL thing…I’ve been to the Sarnia Sting game where they do this, approximately this time of year too. And its really, really, really cool!
