Repo Man Takes Kid’s Christmas Gifts
A lesson to parents: don’t borrow a car from someone who’s behind on their payments to go Christmas shopping in.
A woman in Daytona Beach, Fla. borrowed her brother’s girlfriend’s car to stock up on gifts for her ten-year-old, only to see the repo man show up, take the car and all the gifts. And now, she says, they won’t give them back.
Anne Bright told WESH she has receipts for the electric scooter she picked up at Toys R Us, the video games she got at Wal-Mart, and they add up to some $400. But she’s got nothing to show for it, because the only thing the dealership would give them from the car was a bag of trash and a car seat.
According to the FTC, there are strict rules regarding private property in repossessed vehicles: “Regardless of the method used to dispose of a repossessed car, a creditor may not keep or sell any personal property found inside.” If they don’t hand over the goods, the FTC recommends getting a lawyer.
But Bright just spent her last excess cash on Christmas – she works two jobs and saved up to make sure she could give daughter Saniya a merry holiday. Now she’s got enough money for the basics – rent, food, etc.
So now for the good news. Someone saw the WESH broadcast . . . and showed up at the TV station. The local business owner rebought everything that went missing – and more.

And I actually hope that if its true that the dealership and the repo man kept that gifts, someone goes after them for that without cost to this woman!
