After weeks of speculation, it is now official. Comcast takes over NBC Universal. Well, eventually. There are still regulatory hurdles to clear. Rome wasn’t burned in a day, you know. I mean… I don’t know what I mean. Mostly that was just me amusing myself with clever wordplay. This isn’t like some media deals that seem to signal the coming apocalypse. (Mashable)

ZOMG! Taylor Swift is, like, TOTALLY freaking out over the Grammys! Maybe she’s afraid Kanye West will show up. Swift told People magazine that “To be recognized by the Grammys is the ultimate honor.” Clearly she’s never seen The Simpsons.

A new Rasmussen poll finds an increase in adults who call themselves Republicans and a decrease in those who call themselves Democrats. There are still more Democrats than there are Republicans, however. But the gap is narrowing! Oh no! Or, if you are a Republican, oh yes! Because really, there’s no in-between, is there? (L.A. Comment on the above: why do we have political parties? Do they still serve a purpose? Why can’t people just run for office on their own merits? The main reason appears to be money, and most of that money goes to advertising and consultants, with most of the consultants telling candidates where to place their ads. Here’s an idea. Ban campaign advertising. I’ve said this before, and I’m going to keep saying it until someone gives me a coherent argument for why political ads are necessary. Yes, they provide jobs. But the jobs they provide are stupid. And don’t say “freedom of speech.” You can’t advertise cigarettes on television. Certain types of advertising can be banned. End of comment.

I missed this yesterday but it needs to be pointed out because it’s so bizarre. If this were The Daily Show I would call it your moment of zen. But since it’s not, I’ll call it… BS Quote of the Day. (Get it? My initials are B.S., and that also means… you know what it means.)
