Parents Get Free Car for Naming Baby Kia
Thank heavens Samantha Smyth didn’t deliver her baby in a Pontiac. Or a Hyundai. She did, however, give birth in her Kia. And now Kia Motors is giving Smyth and partner Tony Richardson a brand new car.
So what’s the catch? The couple abandoned their first pick for a girl name - Tilley - in favor of Kia. The decision came before the announcement from the car company - who heard about the unusual birth and equally unusual naming process and came up with the vehicle.
Smyth, who lives in England, told Sky News the baby was a dream delivery. Now a mother of three, she found little Kia “literally came flying out.” She was born with the cord wrapped around her neck, but paramedics arrived quickly to avert any danger.
And fortunately her parents lucked into both a car and a pretty normal name for their kid. I went to school with a Kia - well before the cars were popular here in the states. These days it might be a little tougher name to live with, but it’s infinitely better than Pontiac!
Did you change your baby name at the last second?

snarky mama commented on Nov 24 09 at 6:16 pmI didn’t change any names at the last minute, but my son goes to school with a kid named “Dasani”. Yeah, like the water.
FYI commented on Nov 25 09 at 1:42 amJust FYI to the author of this post. Hyundai owns the KIA car company. If you opened your eyes you can tell that both companies release the same cars with different badges like Ford and Mercury do.
Mistress_Scorpio commented on Nov 25 09 at 8:33 amThe year my son was born, Vlasic (the pickle people) were giving away a $5,000 bond to a parent who would give their child the first or middle name “Crunch.”
