student protests tuition hike uc davis 150x150 Morning News Student Protesters ArrestedStudent protesters arrested? What is this, the 60’s? Nope. It’s 2009. And these weren’t even teabag protesters! Well, they never get arrested, actually. Interesting.Anyway, this particular group of kooky kids at the University of California, Davis, got themselves tossed into the hoosegow “after they refused to vacate the school’s administration building in protest of a 32-percent tuition hike.” Tin soldiers and tuition’s rising / my parents don’t have the cash / My resume needs revising / We’ll be annoying like diaper rash… Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as the CSNY tune, I guess. (CNN)

Sad news from the art world. Jeanne-Claude, the artist formerly known as Denat de Guillebo and partner of Christo, died on Wednesday. She was 74. I personally didn’t care much for The Gates but it’s sad when people die. (Flavorpill)

Sony is making their own online content store in an attempt to compete with Apple’s iTunes. (Business Week) Uh-oh. You know what we have to say to that?

And from the Department of Good News/Bad News, Rudy Giuliani says he won’t be running for Governor. That’s the good news. The bad news is that he may run for Senate next year. (BuffaloNews.com) Uh-oh. Here it comes again:

If you want to ignore the news and see a movie this weekend, you have a few choices. My choice would be “The Blind Side,” which stars Sandra Bullock and is based on a terrific book by Michael Lewis. Bullock plays Leigh Anne Touhy, a woman who adopts a homeless kid named Michael Oher who eventually becomes an NFL football player. True story. The trailer gets me teary-eyed:

For the kids, there’s “Planet 51″, about humans who land on an alien planet and are therefore the aliens. Looks amusing. Nicolas Cage stars in the crime drama “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” along with Eva Mendes and Val “remember me?” Kilmer. (Based on the recent news regarding Cage’s financial issues, maybe this should have been called “Bad Accountant.”) And oh yeah, one other movie… what was it? Nitelite? Light Brite? OH! “Twilight.” That was it. Actually, the official and far more pretentious title is “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” Ah yes. I’ll take Movies I Don’t Care About for $500, Alex.
