The End of Oprah
Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey is ending her daytime network TV talk show. She will announce the end of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Friday’s show, which observers believe may wind up being one of her most-watched ever.
If you barely remember afternoon television without this world-changing, life-changing, rules-changing production, don’t panic just yet. The show’s not ending this week. Or this year.
Or next. You have until 2011 — which will mark the show’s 25th season — to make the adjustment.
Moreover, you might still find Oprah even after that. There is much speculation that she’ll re-create some version of the show over on her own cable channel, The Oprah Winfrey Network.
In a statement sent out to networks, Harpo Productions said the last show would officially be Sept. 9, 2011.
“The sun will set on the ‘Oprah’ show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011,” Winfrey’s Harpo Productions said in an e-mail to TV station executives Thursday evening.
“As we all know, Oprah’s personal comments about this on tomorrow’s live show will mark a historic television moment that we will all be talking about for years to come.”
The Washington Post points out that her announcement, during the all-important November ratings, is expected to draw a large audience. And though her viewership has dropped substantially over the past few years, she’s made up some of it by getting first interviews with Mackenzie Phillips, who talked about having sex with her father, and Sarah Palin, who launched her book tour on the show.

However, from what I understand she has pushed a great deal of harmful pseudoscience, especially in the field of medicine. (She just signed on Jenny McCarthy, for goodness sake!) If the end of her show means there will be less pushing of this nonsense, I am happy for it.

Some shows I liked and some not so much but she is a success story and I think she has done a lot for women through her years of TV and she is retiring at the peak of her time.
