Donald Duck And Friends #347: Issue #347? What’s up with that? Boom! Studios picked up the license on a bunch of Disney comic book titles and decided to keep the numbering on this one.

Pals N Gals Double Digest #136: Archie is a busy guy. I wonder if any other comic book character has appeared in more stories over the years. Probably not.

Sonic The Hedgehog Vol 2 #206: It’s still unclear to me why this title is too weird for my kid while the other Sonic books — the now canceled “Sonic X” and the current “Sonic Universe” — are OK.

Looney Tunes Vol 3 #180

Disney Pixars Finding Nemo Reef Rescue #4: The final issue of the “Finding Nemo” mini series from Boom! Studios. The story, which involves some of the sea creatures from the movie (Marlin, Dori, Gil, et al) trying to defending their reef from starfish. (Longtime DC Comics readers will notice a similarity between the starfish and the supervillian Starro The Conqueror.) They get help from a group of pink female shrimp. It’s not exactly “Harry Potter”, or even on the level of the original “Finding Nemo” film, frankly, but the kids like it, and the artwork, by Erica Leigh Currey, is quite good.

Family Circus Library Vol 1 Complete Comics From The Beginning 1960-61 HC: Fans of the “Family Circus” newspaper strip can start from the beginning with this hardcover collection.

Borderline Kids Stuff/Older Kids

These titles I’m not sure about; that is, they aren’t obviously for younger readers, which I define as 5 and up. Parents should, of course, make their own decisions about what their children read.

X-Men Origins Iceman: I’m a big Iceman fan, and for some reason he doesn’t get a lot of attention in the Marvel Universe. So a one-shot devoted to him is something I had to pick up. I’ll read it first and then maybe pass it on to the kid.

Manga Shakespeare King Lear: I picked up a few of these at New York Comic Con a couple of years ago. They’re pretty good, if not exactly groundbreaking. Shakespeare’s stories lend themselves nicely to the Manga style, and maybe these books will inspire kids to pick up the real thing. I kind of doubt it, however.

Charles Darwins On The Origin Of Species A Graphic Adaptation: This is probably the only way I will ever read “Origin of Species.” Although I didn’t buy this. So maybe not.

Real Spy’s Guide To Becoming A Spy: Apparently this tells you how to, you know, be a spy. Maybe buying it for the kids isn’t such a good idea.

Grown-up stuff

A few titles I bought this week that you probably shouldn’t give to the kids.

Deadpool Team-Up #899: Written by my current favorite comics writer, Fred Van Lente.

Dark Avengers #9 2nd Ptg Variant Cover (Dark Reign Tie-In): A reprint of an issue that I liked, which also had a strong parenting theme. Read more about Dark Avengers #9 here.

Marvel Zombies Evil Evolution: Marvel Zombies meets Marvel Apes. If that phrase makes you say “OHHH YEAH”, you have a problem. The same problem I have, but a problem all the same.
