11-Year-Old Girl Gives Birth on Her Wedding Day
Upon holding up her newborn child for cameras, 11-year-old Kordeza Zhelyazkova said, “I’m not going to play with toys any more - I have a new toy now.”
Yikes.
Kordeza went into labor during the wedding ceremony to her teenage boyfriend Jeliazko Dimitrov. She still was still wearing the white dress and tiara when she gave birth to her daughter, Violeta.
Dimitrov, who is facing up to six year in prison for having sex with a minor, met Kordeza on the playground of her Roma gypsy school in Sliven, Bulgaria. Within a week Kordeza was pregnant.
Her family greeted the news warmly as a girl giving birth at 13 years of age is fairly regular in Sliven.
For now Dimitrov, his child bride and baby will live separately as prosecutors the statutory rape case. The legal age in Bulgaria is 14. Kordeza will live with her grandmother in a dilapidated house in Sliven’s gypsy ghetto.
On her plans for the future, Kordeza says, “I don’t want more children right away. I think one is enough for now.”
That’s probably best.

leahsmom commented on Nov 03 09 at 5:09 pmWhy does it matter how old she looks? 11 is a child, barely old enough to consent to many things, and most of us would argue, certainly not old enough to consent to sex. Each partner has the responsibility to ascertain the competence of the other to consent to sex; the young man didn’t live up in this case - or just disregarded the consequences. How old she looks is utterly meaningless. That’s like saying someone didn’t get raped because she was pretty or “looked like she wanted to have sex.”
