New Moon - Kids Warned Not to Skip School for Vampire Movie
Vampire fans on both sides of the Team Edward/Team Jacob fence got a little lesson in what it means to be responsible last week. Orange County school administrators reminded teens that they belonged in class last Friday — the day New Moon hit the big screen — and not in a movie theater.

School Paper Shut Down for Being Too Honest
Kids were writing stories about teen pregnancy, shoplifting and honor students who drink and do drugs. So did the school call an intervention? No, they shut down the student newspaper.
The Stevenson High School paper has long been regarded as one of the most hard hitting in terms of high school journalism. Earlier this year, an issue on “hooking up” disappeared. Continue reading »

Start Shopping Now With Babble’s Discounts and Deals
You’ll hear a lot about how times are tough this year, and how stores will be offering deep discounts. It seems like we hear that EVERY year, though, and this year is no different. People like to save money. That’s why lots of us drag our turkey-soaked heads out of bed before sunrise on Black Friday to scour stores for cheap stuff.
But why wait for Black Friday? Continue reading »

Should Military Mothers Be Deployed Overseas?
A recent post about a single mother soldier who refused deployment to care for her son has spurred a lively debate about what limits and protections, if any, should be afforded to mothers in the military.
While some commentators are arguing that women have no place in the army whatsoever, others are arguing that no soldier deserves special treatment and that women who “shirk their responsibilities make things harder for those who are trying to receive equal treatment.” Continue reading »

Why Toddlers Ask “Why?”
As any parent of a toddler will tell you, a child this age has two favorite words: “No” and “why.” While both words can be exasperating, the dreaded “why” is especially vexing. This is because “why” often requires a more thoughtful response than “Because I said so.”
But what is really going on with a child who repeatedly asks “why?” If you think they are doing it for the obvious reason - that they really want to know why - congratulations! You figured out something all by yourself that it took an assistant professor of psychology two whole studies to determine. Continue reading »

Girl’s Stuffed Animal Show Goes Horribly Wrong
Channing has a great idea. She’s going to put on a stuffed animal dog show, and when she’s done, she wants all of you to grab your stuffed animals and make your own show. Then she’ll choose the one that’s the best.
This sweet little video probably would have been lost in virtual oblivion had it gone as planned. Only it doesn’t.
