Morning News – Public Option Returns
The Public Option returns. Harry Reid will include a public option in the latest version of the heatlh care bill. It will have an opt out provision for states that don’t want it. To be honest, it’s all a bit confusing. Democrats are wimps. (MSNBC)Here’s Harry Reid talking about it.
What I mean when I say “Democrats are wimps” is that they don’t seem to be able to commit to what they want because they want a “consensus.” When Republicans want something done (sometimes) they just push it through. The Democrats, if they banded together, could get this done. But they’re not. This is a separate issue from whether or not you believe a public option is the right way to go.
Great headline: Bosnian Serb ‘Iron Lady’ released (BBC). Not a nice story. Video report, with an accent:
Samantha Geimer, the woman that Roman Polanski raped many years ago (it was a rape, in fact, it was even a rape-rape), would like the charges against him dropped. Why? Because the media won’t stop bothering her. According to a story in the L.A. Times, the constant attention — more than 500 requests from international media outlets, including, but not limited to, Larry King and Oprah — is causing her problems at work. And check this out: “photographers have been camped outside her Hawaii home, trying to take photos or video through holes drilled in their cars and offering gifts to her children in exchange for information.” See, this is one of those times that I think “freedom of the press” goes a bit too far. Isn’t that just harrassment? If she doesn’t want to be interviewed, that should be it. It’s like the Do Not Call list for telemarkers. Of course, Mike Bloomberg’s people still call me five times a day. But that’s something else. (L.A. Times)
