Recall Alert – Plum Organics Apple and Carrot Baby Food
Plum Organics is announcing a voluntary recall of their 4.22 ounce Apple and Carrot Portable Pouch baby food due to a mixing error that leaves the food at risk for contamination with the germ that causes botulism.
The packages involved, which are sold in Toys ‘R Us and Babies ‘R Us stores, have a “best by” date of May 21, 2010 and are marked with the UPC code #890180001221.
An error in manufacturing led to the food being packaged without the proper acidity levels, which could allow dangerous bacteria to grow. But the company stresses there have been no reports of illness. Dr. Paul Gerhardt of Plum Organics said in a statement:
“The product did not meet the FDA guidelines for proper acidity level. Though risk of illness from this one batch is minimal, Plum Organics is taking the extraordinary step of recalling all Apple & Carrot Baby Food Pouches with best by date of May 21, 2010.”
Parents who’ve bought the product can return it to any Toys ‘R Us or Babies ‘R Us for a full refund, while those with questions can call 1-888-974-3555 or email info@plumorganics.com.
